I am Crowstar, the leader of LeafClan. I haven't had the most decent of lives, but haven't have the worst, either. Let me tell you my story.
It was a cold leafbare day that morning I woke up to my mother's cries. At first, I thought that the cries were just a dream, but then I bolted awake to find that they were real.
Sadness and pain shown in my mother's eyes and pelt. Her mouth gaped open, and she was looking at a small scrap of fur. My mother was looking at Dash, my brother. Okay, so he was the smallest of us, but he was definitely the most adventurous. I wondered why mother was so sad.
"Flash?" I asked my mother. "Why are you sad?" Then I looked at my brother. He looked like he was in a deep sleep, and he was never going to wake up. "He's dead, Berry! Don't you get it?" my mother snapped. She quickly said something else. "I'm sorry, Berry. I didn't mean to..."
I knew that my mother was depressed. I had never seen her cry before this. "That's okay, mother." I mewed. Then I went to wake the others. I nudged Wolf. "Wake up!" I whispered urgently. Wolf just turned away from me. So then I nudged Dekota. "Dekota!" I mewed. "Wake up!" She bolted awake immediately. She had always been the most jumpy of us.
"What is it, Berry?" she mewed. "Dash is dead." I replied solemnly. Then I stared at my paws. "Really?" she whispered. "Dash, no!" Tears started streaming down her face. "Not Dash..."
Wolf woke up in all the commotion, and we all started yowling in mourning. With all the noise we were making, my twoleg woke up. He started yelling really loud, and he wouldn't stop. We didn't know what he was saying, so we kept mewling.
That's when he got out the boomstick. He pointed it straight at Flash, and that's when... I heard a really loud noise. Within moments, Flash was lying on the floor, blood seeping out of a wound on her shoulder.
"Mother!" I cried. "Mother, wake up!" I didn't understand that she was gone forever. I looked at my Wolf and Dekota, my eyes wide with fear. "What are we going to do, guys?" I squeaked.
That's when Wolf piped up. "We leave. We climb through the hole in the fence, and try to find the wild cats that Dad used to tell us about." I thought that was a great idea, but Dekota had an objection.
"Guys, I could never live the life of a wildcat. I'm sorry." She looked at her paws. Wolf and I looked at each other. We both had the same idea.
"Lefty!" we shouted together. Lefty was a soft old kittypet with only two right legs. His twolgs were really kind, always ready to take in a stray.
We dropped Dekota off at Lefty's house, only staying to make sure the twolegs took her in. They did, and she seemed quite happy.
"Now, how to find the wildcats?" Wolf mewed. Neither of us knew which way to go. But then I remembered Father's stories.
