Eaglestar looked out over her clan proudly. Today, there was going to be another new apprentice. She was very giddy about it and had thought long and hard about who to allow to mentor the shy and sensitive Leopardkit. "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather under Ice Rock for a clan meeting!" She yowled out.

Fallensong stepped daintily over to the Ice rock, her small paws just barely skimming the ice. Her large, liquid edyes gazed up at her leader, ans she sat down with a sweep of her banner tail. She had an inlking of an idea what it wasd about-the only time Eaglestar looked this excited was when there was a new apprentice. It meant that there was future for the Clan-it was a sign of renewal and hope. It made everycat giddy with relief.

Eaglestar looked down at Leopardpaw and her old friend expectantly. Her plan would either work great or fail miserably. She sighed, her whiskers twitching. As she talked, her voice rang out loud and clear with none of her previous worries. "This sunhigh we gather together to name a new apprentice. Leopardkit, come forward. From this day forward, until she has earned her warrior name, this apprentice will be called Leopardpaw. Fallensong, you are ready to take on an apprentice. You will be mentor to Leopardpaw. Fallensong, you have shown yourself to be a warrior of courage and strength. I expect you to pass on everything you have learned to Leopardpaw," she finished.

Leopardpaw felt her eyes go wide in shock. Of all the cats she was chosen to be apprenticed with this one? She was odder than her and that was saying something. Grudgingly, she padded over to her new mentor to touch noses with her.

Fallensong was jerked out of her reverie rather suddenly. She had been reminiscing about Songbird, when suddenly, she had heard her own name. She spotted the new apprentice walking towards her, and her eyes widened in disbelief. She looked up at Eaglestar. Surely, this was madness! She touched noses with her new apprentice. She had neevr gotten the chance for an apprentice....her thoughts fell on her kits. Sadly enough, she didn't even remembered who mentored them.

There were many annoyed murmurs passing through the clan. No one thought Fallensong an appropriate mentor to any cat but Eaglestar jumped down and silenced any who complained. Leopardpaw was still sitting in shock and confusion and she looked up at her mentor unsurely. "F-Fallensong, when w-will we go t-to see the b-borders?" she meowed almost to quietly for her to hear.

Fallensong padded away, not making a sound on the iced-over snow. She motioned with her tail to Leopardpaw to follow, and headed toward the stream. That was the first place her mentor had taken her; It was very hazardous, for it was constantly thawing and freezing. An apprentice had to know the signs of thin ice, so that they wouldn't drown.
